Métis Talking Sticks
Talking Sticks are used by the speakers in the circle, and passed along to allow each to speak in turn, all equal in the circle. These Métis talking sticks also talk, in that they tell early stories of Canada (kanata:kon).
This country was born from a mettisage, a weaving of distinct cultures and worldviews from two groups, Indigenous and European. It begins with people from here, joined by early colonists, some of whom became les Voyageurs, Canadiens, Métis… through wars and alliances, kidnapping and marriages in the ‘manière du pays.’
